It’s been six months since bike share program Pronto Cycle Share unleashed its fleet of bikes upon Seattle and to celebrate its successful stint, Pronto is declaring next week (April 13-19) Pronto Week. During the special week, riders can expect reduced pricing including $79 annual memberships (normally $85), $6 single-day passes (normally $8), plus member discounts on merch from places like Timbuk2 and ACT Theatre, a party on April 16 and more. Since its launch in October, Pronto reports that users have biked more than 87,000 miles and logged more than 46,000 trips.
Nominate a teacher: The annual Ivar’s and Kidd Valley Teacher of the Year contest is back, in which students (kindergarten through eighth grade) nominate their favorite teacher for a chance at the 2015 Teacher of the Year honor. Two educators will receive the grand prize award along with a $500 gift card for classroom supplies and a party for the class. To nominate a teacher, head to ivars.com/teacher or kiddValley.com/calendar.htm. The deadline to enter is May 19.
The Panama Hotel, built in 1909, in Seattle’s Chinatown/International District has been named a national treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that this is the “trust’s first treasure in Seattle and the country’s 60th.”
KEXP has lost part of its funding for its new 28,000-square-foot location in the Seattle Center, which it had planned to move into in December as we reported back in January. Strangely enough, the radio station has no idea why it lost the funding. According to King 5 News, KEXP’s “executive director, Tom Mara, says somehow the non-profit radio station was removed from the Senate’s Capital Budget for Building for the Arts, where it was ranked second in line to receive the funding it needs of $1.8 million.”
