Slim Goody Joins Crowded Ballard Bar Scene
New sports pub opens July 19

Ballard is becoming a hotspot for sports bars.
The latest? Slim Goody, opening July 19 at 5411 Ballard Ave. N.W. in the former Great State Burger space. The new, 100-seat bar promises a whimsical take, with general manager and part-owner Jake Hoveland saying the menu will reflect the sports on TV.
“So, if the Seahawks are playing the Saints, you might see oyster po’ boys on game day,” says Hoveland, who previously worked at Chainline Brewing and Good Brewing. “If the Mariners are in the playoffs against the White Sox, Chicago-style hot dogs will be on the menu. When it’s Decision Day in the Premiere League, we’ll have a full English breakfast.”
Slim Goody joins neighbors including The Old County Bar, Bad Albert’s Tap & Grill, and Rough & Tumble, the state’s first women’s-themed sports bar that opened in late 2022 in the former Kickin Boot Whiskey Kitchen and Sawyer spot. Up on 15th Avenue West is Fuel Sports Grill, which moved to the neighborhood from Pioneer Square several years ago.
So, if sports bars are your thing, Ballard is seemingly the place to be.
