Home of the Week: Beautiful Broadview Estate
This traditional two-story home with French doors galore brings the lush grounds in

Each week, we’re featuring one Seattle-area home that we think is interesting, inspiring or just a downright feast for the eyes. Some of them are actually on the market, while other homes will offer enviable style tips–courtesy of their ingenious owners or designers–that you can steal for your own abode.
I’m usually a modern architecture kind of gal. A Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe devotee, if you will. But every so often I spy a home or an interior design project that leans way more traditional than my usual tastes and suddenly I’m spellbound.
This five-bedroom gated estate in Broadview, built in 1939 and currently on the market for a cool $1,750,000, has me supporting Team Traditional. Just look at that curb appeal: the carefully manicured greenery, the winding drive, the stately columns. Oh, all the places to hang Christmas (holiday?) lights!
Inside, the more than 4,400-square-foot manse is just as regal. Rooms are loaded with moulding, fantastic French doors that fan out onto the patio and a den with black lacquered walls that would make even the late Diana Vreeland proud. The kitchen is an all-white dream, mixing the right amount of classic, rustic and modern touches. Perhaps what I like most about this home is that it’s not trying to be something it isn’t; it’s happily staying true to its traditional roots. See for yourself:
Such a stately living space with really beautiful natural light
Greet your guests in this grand entryway
This is perhaps my most favorite room. Luxe lacquered walls are oh so different (and daring)
Here, you’ll find Carrara marble countertops and a window-facing breakfast nook
Love the character in this bathroom. (Also, is there a room in which a sisal rug doesn’t look good? I think not.)
There’s even a place for mumsy: The home has a one-bedroom Mother-in-law suite over its attached three-car garage. What more could you want?
