A $670,000 Mattress? Really?

Swedish brand Hästens will open a showroom in Bellevue this July

By Rob Smith May 6, 2025

A bed with white bedding and a blue plaid base in a modern room with a fireplace, books, and a lamp on a nightstand.

If you’re in the market for a $670,000 mattress, mark July on your calendar. That’s when Swedish mattress maker Hästens will open a showroom in Bellevue.

The brand previously opened a store in downtown Seattle in 2007. It closed a year later.

The company says each bed is made from “the finest natural materials,” including sustainably sourced horsehair, organic cotton, wool, and slow-grown Swedish pine. At $670,000 the Grand Vividus is the brand’s most expensive mattress, but entry-level models start at around $4,000.

Several high-end retailers have targeted Seattle recently, including women’s apparel retailer Veronica Beard; Black Diamond Equipment, a Salt Lake-city based outdoor gear retailer that recently opened in the Fremont neighborhood; Suit Supply, which just opened its second Seattle store at the base of Rainier Tower (it also operates a store in Bellevue); and Taylor Stitch, which recently announced plans to open in downtown Seattle this spring.

Lifestyle and performance apparel brand TravisMathew also just opened its first  retail store in Washington state at Bellevue Square.
