Local food writer Cynthia Nims shares her recipe for a delicious—and decorous—game night
We’re all for the resurgence of old fashioned game nights—but we could do without the Doritos-dust coating our Yahtzee dice. In her brand new cookbook, Gourmet Game Night ($17.99, Ten Speed Press) food writer Cynthia Nims (Cooking Light, Sunset and Seattle magazines) shares recipes to help game night hosts conquer the perils of sticky snacks. An experienced game-night hostess, Nims knows how to think outside the box of Wheat Thins. She shares a wealth of recipes both gourmet and easy to grab—from elegant hors d’oeuvres such as Masala Crab Salad with Mango to simple finger-foods like Itty Bitty BLTs. Tips include ways to turn main dishes into manageable servings, including edible wrappers (Shrimp Cakes in Shiso Leaves) and innovative mini-containers (shot glasses for Chilled Avocado Soup). Sounds like everybody wins.
