View Seattle with a Tilt-Shift Lens

There’s just something irresistible about imagining our whole city—and its busy goings-on—in miniature. That’s exactly what some locals are doing with tilt-shift photography (also called tilt-shift miniature faking), which involves distorting the perspective and focus in a photograph so that real-world places and things appear to be scale models. The technique, in which certain sections of a photo are in strong focus and others are blurred, can be achieved either with a camera or after a picture has been taken (in an image editor such as Photoshop). Increasing contrast and heightening color can intensify the effect—causing the viewer to feel like Gulliver in Lilliput.
