Work has finally begun on the stalled Fifth + Columbia tower. The building will soar to 44 stories–one of the tallest in Seattle–and will house a four-star luxury hotel on the third through the 15th floors. The rest will be office space. Look for Fifth + Columbia to open sometime in 2016.

More development news: The plot of land at 1903 Fifth Avenue that San Franciso-based Stanford Hotels purchased in 2013 will, naturally, be turned into a hotel. According to The Seattle Times, plans for the site include a 50-story building with a 284-room hotel, 90 apartments, 133 condos and street-level retail.

Five people were arrested last night in Seattle as protests over the Ferguson, Mo., decision turned from peaceful to violent. Protesters blocked portions of northbound I-5 and according to KIRO 7, “threw bottles, rocks, cans of food and lit flares at officers near Seventh Avenue and James Street, shortly before getting onto I-5.”

Another Angie’s List and Porch.com competitor? Amazon is starting up “Amazon Local Services,” a site that will help customers find home repair services, lawn and garden services and beyond. The online retailer will roll out its offering in seven cities, including here in Seattle.

An armed robbery happened in Volunteer Park Sunday night around 7 p.m. KOMO News reports that the Seattle Police Department is looking for two men suspected of robbing and pistol whipping a couple who were walking in the park. The suspects then drove off and began tailgating a car. They approached the vehicle while it was stopped at a stoplight and used a gun to threaten the driver, a father who was taking his daughter home.
