Century Ballroom Celebrates 20 Years
Century Ballroom kicks up its heels to celebrate 20 years of dance

Twenty years ago, when Hallie Kuperman opened the Century Ballroom in the 1908 Oddfellows Hall on Capitol Hill, about four people came to the first salsa class. These days, hundreds of dancers are addicted to the classes and dances held there each week. They tackle swing, bachata, tango, salsa, and even the waltz. Between dances, Century floorboards stay heated with performers such as BenDeLaCreme and Waxie Moon. The late, amazing Lindy Hop founder Frankie Manning performed here, too. The ballroom is celebrating its 20th anniversary starting February 4 with LA’s Ricardo Lemvo and ends February 26 with New York’s George Gee Swing Orchestra, with many luminaries in between.
