Vivian Maier: Out of the Shadows
Ongoing (closes 3/28 ) — The story is nothing short of incredible. A nanny who lived in New York City and Chicago, Vivian Maier was also a devoted shutterbug who took captivating street shots of everyday people—amounting to a roll of film a day from the 1950s through the ’70s. But she kept her hobby private, piling up more than 100,000 negatives in storage units, which went undiscovered until 2007. Her incisive eye is remarkable, and her story is an ode to art for art’s sake.

Michael Moss: Salt, Sugar, Fat
Friday (3/15) — Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Michael Moss was the first to blow the lid off the “pink slime” controversy. Now he’s calling out the convenience food industry for consciously getting Americans hooked on three unhealthy ingredients that make up the title of his new book: Salt, Sugar, Fat. At Town Hall, in conversation with Grist’s Chip Giller, he’ll discuss some of the shocking tactics food companies use to keep us hooked—and suggest strategies for how to stop them. Don’t go expecting a guilt trip about your diet. Moss recently admitted that, as a working parent, he resorts to convenience food too.
