Fashion Friday: Very Merry Weekend Holiday Sales

Urban Craft Uprising, Christmas gift picks at Momo and a very peppermint manicure

Tis’ the season for shopping (or in my case just wandering the men’s department trying to find a gift for the guy who declared he just wanted socks for Christmas, sigh) and the holiday sales and fests are in full swing this weekend, and the weeks beyond. Stay tuned each Friday as we highlight the best in holiday shopping, below I’ve plucked this week’s favorite fests, my current new jewelry obsession—and a great way to get a little R&R during the fray:

–    Blown-glass aficionados rejoice: The talented husband and wife team behind Blown Glass Platters and Recycled Loot jewelry (respectively) are having a blow-out sale (sorry, couldn’t resist!) in their White Center studio this weekend, with 20% off unique, colorful platters and Genevieve Church’s amazing, one-of-a-kind glass necklaces. Address, hours and more details here.

–    If you heart Etsy, consider yourself a crafter, or just love pretty handmade gifts, meet your Mecca: this weekend’s Urban Craft Uprising at the Seattle Center. The city’s largest indie craft show, over 120 local vendors will be on hand toting their clothing and jewelry lines, paper goods, toys, kids wear and more. The cast includes Crystalyn Kae vegan handbags, Hoot Organic upcycled baby dresses and hats and Ilee Papergoods. Extra bonus points: Admission is free.

–    If you’re also at a loss for creative ideas (see: Me. Socks. Above.) get some advice from three former Nordstrom ex-pats, handing their out-of-the-box-gift ideas at our favorite little ID shop, Momo next Thursday December 9th from 4-7 p.m.  One of the evening’s hosts, Dorit Aly of Woo+Co, creates my favorite little girlfriend gift: marvelously scented square soaps, already packaging in a ceramic tray and wrapping for $12.

–    Okay, confession: Rachel Zoe kind of annoys me, but I can think of no other way to describe how much I love ThinkNow’s recycled wood earrings other than to use her trademark expression, “I die.” Designer Rebecca Luong uses her architecture background to craft funky-cut wood earrings at great, affordable prices ($20-$50); find her collection at SPUN Collective on Capitol Hill.

–    And if all the fests and festivals have you weary, pop into your nearest Julep Nail Parlor location for their holiday Peppermint Bark pedicure or manicure, the fragrant candy cane scrub crafted especially by SoDo-based organic skin care co. Sweet Beauty.
