Fashion + Style Friday: Local beauty and fashion news, plus the winter sales continue
Beauty tips for spring, a local fashion duo goes Hollywood and why you need to click over to shopoli
By Seattle Mag January 21, 2011

I don’t know if it’s because I decided (yet again) to work out more, or the wet January doldrums, but late winter is always when I get the itch to change up my look. Between the ensuing spring (please?) and the gargantuan task of clearing my closet of 7-year old collegiate attire last weekend (when apparently I had a severe love affair with American Eagle and Old Navy), this week I’m obsessed with simple beauty tricks and happy-go-lucky attire:
– For the savvy Twitterati, you probably already know local makeup guru Suresh Seneviratne is a fount of information, but those of you in the dark, it’s worth getting on “The Twitter” (as my dad says) to absorb his stellar beauty advice. Along with his amazing lip glosses and makeup line Suresh Beauty, Suresh answers beauty conundrums via his Twitter feed daily, simply email over your questions and he’ll give you the dish. From tips on how to combat dry skin to precise application techniques, he’s simply the go-to man in my mind. Follow him here.
– Also in beauty news, top stylist Amy Quakenbush (formerly of Suede) is branching out on her own next month, opening up salon Adele in Fremont. There she will offer a new signature treatment coined the Diamond cut, a precision cut followed by a super-moisturizing, shine-inducing glaze perfect for a pre-event touch-up.
– It’s hard not to feel a swell of hometown pride when you see starlets wearing a Seattleite’s clothing designs. Though they have gone from the Northwest for a while, the dynamic brother duo behind Obvious Clothing (and the Lolly line) continue to have their relaxed, boho-style shirts pop up on the likes of Eliza Dishku and the Lohan. Kudos, guys! Check it out their sping 2011 collection here.
– I must remember not to blow the wad next Christmas, especially if the local sales are anything like this month’s offerings. I blew the back-up wad yesterday after checking in at Olivine to find all of Suzabelle’s gorgeous trademark coats and dresses are 50% off. Also, the peek I got at her upcoming spring collection may also be very, very detrimental to my budget.
– And in case you missed it, read up on the big news from Luly Yang from earlier this week.
