Sometimes it takes more than a cup of joe to kick-start the day. For those seeking extra inspiration, CreativeMornings could be just the ticket. Taking place at 8:30 a.m. on the second Friday of each month, CreativeMornings is an ongoing series of short talks—think TED Talks, but with coffee and pastries—by ingenious locals in fields that run the gamut from art to tech.

The free events, which started in New York City, take place in cities around the world and follow a loose monthly theme, such as time, failure, love or happiness, which will be interpreted differently by the speaker at each location.

Recent local events have included Cal McAllister, CEO of ad agency Wexley School for Girls, on how to “Be Pleasantly Disruptive”; University of Washington ophthalmology professor Jay Neitz on “Color Vision, Molecular Genetics”; and hip-hop artist Raz Simone, who took on the theme crossover. The theme for the February event (2/12) is ethics. Visit CreativeMornings (creativemornings.com/cities/sea) for speaker and location updates, as well as ticket information.
