Macklemore Has a New Baby On the Way, Adds Second KeyArena Show

The famed Seattle rapper made two major announcements Thursday morning.

While poor Ryan Lewis is still trying to sell his lavish Magnolia house, the beatsmith’s rapper bud has kept himself busy. Last week Macklemore dropped Gemini, his first album sans Lewis in more than a decade to middling reviews. The release followed an announcement earlier this month that Seattle’s most prominent and polarizing emcee is embarking on a U.S. tour, which includes a Dec. 22 gig at KeyArena that quickly sold out.

But the “Thrift Shop” hitmaker wasn’t done dishing out good news. Thursday morning the arena rapper—who walked away from a scary car wreck earlier this summer—took to Instagram to unveil a couple more nuggets in a playful video.

“You guys have been such a huge part of our lives that I wanted to let you in on a little secret,” the real-life Ben Haggerty says, strolling into frame rocking an M’s jersey. “Tricia is pregnant and today we are going to find out the gender of our child.”

Surrounded by their first child, friends, family and/or people who work for him, Haggerty and his wife tear open an envelope for the big reveal. “We’re having a second night at KeyArena—oh my god,” he proclaims amid the giggling onlookers.

Funny. Real funny.

For fans who missed out on night one, tickets for the Dec. 23 show go on sale Friday morning.

Turns out ol’ Mack wasn’t fooling about the baby, though. Before signing off, Haggerty assure fans baby No. 2 really is on the way.

Congrats, Benny.

Seattle… Second time’s the charm. (and yes, both announcements are true)

Holiday productions often account for as much as half of their annual ticket sales. A 2018 Dance/USA survey found that The Nutcracker alone represented 48% of yearly revenue for many companies producing the Tchaikovsky…

Outside The Frame

In their first solo museum exhibition in Seattle, artist Camille Trautman uses photography to reclaim history, narrative, and self-expression.

You have probably seen Camille Trautman’s work without even realizing it. A huge photograph—20 feet wide—is currently hanging across the exterior of the Frye Art Museum, visible to passersby driving along Boren Avenue. The image is of a wooded landscape in black and white. Its edges are vacuous, with trees swallowed by darkness, but the…

A daily ornament drop turns December into a neighborhood-wide scavenger hunt.

The holidays tend to bring out the kid in all of us. And if opening presents and eating too many treats weren’t enough, there’s also a scavenger hunt in Seattle’s oldest neighborhood. Pioneer Square’s Holiday Ornament Scavenger Hunt has returned for its third year. Twenty-five handblown glass ornaments—all made at Glasshouse Studio—are hidden across 25…

Chit-Chat Kids

Phone a friend.

Twenty years ago, before everyone walked around with a device in their pocket, kids used to call each other on a landline—often tethered to the kitchen in their home. It was a simpler time, when parents didn’t have to worry (nearly as much) about a potential predator contacting their child. Nowadays, things are different, which…
