‘Marry Me In Seattle’ Kicks Off with First Same-Sex Wedding
Seattle's first 'Marry Me' nuptials took place earlier this month

With a campaign that began on July 1, Seattle has extended its arms to engaged LGBTQ couples from across the nation by hosting four all-inclusive weddings, each honorably officiated by Seattle’s first openly gay mayor Ed Murray (You may recall our inital post on the Marry Me In Seattle sweepstakes.). We’re beyond ecstatic to announce the first wedding was hosted on September 3, 2014 when Zachary Baker and Samuel Busch of St. Paul, MN married in a heartfelt ceremony at Canlis restaurant, followed by a joyous celebration with donations from more than twenty local businesses. The city was lit from street to sky with rainbow lights, as iconic buildings like Seattle City Hall, the Museum of History and Industry, the Pacific Science Center and even the Seattle Great Wheel colorfully glowed in recognition, while Safeco Field and others hoisted flags to welcome the couple.
Zac and Sam’s story is one fit for the Emerald City. They were engaged last December while dancing the foxtrot and watching The Wizard of Oz on TV. As Dorothy and her companions emerged from the forest and laid eyes on that glimmering green city, Sam pulled a ring from his pocket and proposed to his partner of four-and-a-half years. “Now as our own Emerald City is in view, I couldn’t be happier to say ‘I do’ to my greatest ally and closest friend,” says Zac.
Keep an eye out for those rainbow lights, with the next wedding happening on October 1.
