Menswear Fit for Lean Giants

A former Microsoft marketer launches a special line of mens' shirts catering to tall, trim men.

For designer Mark Tindall, the “big and tall” section in menswear only works halfway. “[Shirts] were always long enough, but big and boxy,” he says. “They would be huge on my neck, short on the arms.”

So, the 6-foot-3 former Microsoft marketer started sketching his own pattern ideas and in late 2009, along with his wife, Sally, and business partner, Susan Clare, launched Longshot Apparel, an online retailer of shirts catering exclusively to tall, trim men.

Manufactured in the U.S. with imported cottons from Italy, Longshot’s button-ups ($165–$185) are made using a pattern developed by measuring hundreds of 6-foot- to 6-foot-10-inch-tall men and are available in styles both high-powered (pinstripes!) and casual, like fall’s new denim gingham.

The Fremont-based company also offers free returns and same-day shipping—two big pluses for mall-averse males.

Available at tallshirts.com.
