Children’s Film Festival at Northwest Film Forum

(1/22 to 2/7, times vary) Seattle’s most surprising film festival celebrates its 10th year, with more than 175 kid-oriented flicks from nearly 50 countries. With documentaries, animation, feature films and shorts, there is plenty here to keep grown-ups occupied while the younger set mingles.

Must Shop

(Dates and times vary) Stores are on the move and there’s a fresh crop of sales on the horizon. We’ve pulled together four ways to spend your hard-earned cash. Now, let’s go wild.

Must Love Me Tender

Friday (1/23, 8 p.m.) Watch 20+ amateur “Elvi” sing and dance to a live band and compete to win the title of Seattle’s Best Amateur Elvis.

Must See
MadArt Reveals Giant Sculpture Made from an Even More Giant Tree

(1/25, 12 to 5 p.m.) Seattle sculptor John Grade spent nine months plaster-casting a 140-year-old Hemlock tree in North Bend, then meticulously reconstructing it (using latticed wood) in the MadArt Gallery in South Lake Union. See the gorgeous result, Middle Fork, before it packs up and travels the country.

Must Make
How to Whip up a Delish Ahi Tuna Poke

This fresh starter from Ethan Stowell’s Chippy’s Fish & Drink takes just minutes to toss together at home. But if you prefer to sample the pro version first, find it on Chippy’s menu, or even better, at Seattle mag’s Pop! Bubbles and Seafood event on Saturday, February 21.
