(3/28) In this third installment of the monthly local literary series, Paul Mullin (playwright-turned-fiction writer) hosts an evening of two readings: one new story by Mullin and a tale written by one of his favorite Pacific Northwest scribes. Featured this night is Kelleen Conway Blanchard, whose writing explores the eerie and ugly side of humanity. Of his series, Mullin says, “Fresh, local, organic. (3/25-3/26) San Francisco-based Cuyana stops by Ballard’s stylish boutique Baleen this weekend for its traveling pop-up shop. The brand’s philosophy centers on “fewer, better things” to encourage intentional shopping and living. Focusing on women’s essentials, expect high quality crafted items like a pebbled leather tote or luxuriously soft 100% baby alpaca wool sweater. The pop-up will include items from the new spring collection to try on, as well as its top five essentials—as voted on by customers. Justice and Soul Foundation’s Fashion SOULstice Event
(3/25) Join Justice and Soul—a nonprofit offering support, protection and rehabilitation to victims and those at risk of sexual exploitation and human trafficking, locally and internationally—at the Lynnwood Convention Center for its fourth annual Fashion SOULstice event. Models will showcase upcoming hair, makeup and fashion trends by the creative work of local stylists, makeup artists, salons and cosmetology schools. Proceeds from the event will benefit young survivors of sex trafficking in Cambodia and help fund the first phase of Justice and Soul’s vocational pilot training program in Seattle. The foundation’s past accomplishments include opening the Kate Korpi Salon and Academy in Cambodia, which helps survivors rebuild their lives with new job skills and training. 6:30 p.m. Prices vary.
