Seattle Night Ride

Peddler Brewing Company, Ballard, 1514 NW Leary Way; 206.522.3222; cascade.org

MUST SEE

Lockwood Dennis
(Through 7/27) After you see his woodcuts, it makes perfect sense that Northwest artist Lockwood “Woody” Dennis (1937–2012) was born when he was. He seems to have absorbed the beautifully simple style of the Works Progress Administration posters in their heyday, when he was a tot: a bit abstracted and Art Deco–tinged, maybe reminiscent in their subject matter—mostly machinery and cityscapes—of socialist-realist industrialism, but nevertheless as thoroughly American as a Sousa march. Times vary. Free. Davidson Galleries, Pioneer Square, 313 Occidental Ave. S; 206.624.7684

MUST LOVE MUSIC

Steve Martin and Edie Brickell’s Bright Star
(Through 8/17)
After collaborating on a bluegrass album, the comedian and the musician decided to continue to work together on a musical—and here it is, in its Seattle premiere: the stories of two North Carolina couples, one set just before the Depression, the other just after WWII, and the secret that links them. Times and prices vary. Taproot Theatre Company, Greenwood, 204 N 85th St.; 206.781.9707

MUST GET YOUR SUGAR FIX

Sweet Tooth Pop-Up
(7/27)
South Lake Union Saturday Market will be welcoming the anticipated Sweet Tooth Pop-Up featuring more than 20 of your favorite sugar-coated vendors. Get your fix of sweets and treats such as rolled ice cream from SÜSU, s’mores from Low Rider Baking Company, meringue with a crunch from Alexandra’s Macarons, cold scoops from micro-creamery Bluebird Ice Cream and spongey delights from Trophy Cupcakes. You’re not going to want to miss this—so indulge now and save the salad for later. 11 a.m.– 4 p.m. Free. South Lake Union, 139 Ninth Ave. N; Facebook: Sweet Tooth Pop-Up

MUST VISIT

BAM Artsfair
(7/26-7/28)
Bellevue Arts Museum is hosting the largest arts & crafts festival in the Northwest—an event that’s coming back strong for round 73. There’s a lot to see, so come early—there will be two stages with music and dance performances, a KIDSfair and dozens of exhibitions featuring photography, sculpture, wearables and printmaking. Plus, a variety of modern, traditional and emerging work from designers and artists nationwide will be available for purchase. Times vary. Free. Bellevue, 575 Bellevue Square; 425.519.0770; bellevuearts.org

Holiday Hunt in Pioneer Square

Holiday Hunt in Pioneer Square

A daily ornament drop turns December into a neighborhood-wide scavenger hunt.

The holidays tend to bring out the kid in all of us. And if opening presents and eating too many treats weren’t enough, there’s also a scavenger hunt in Seattle’s oldest neighborhood. Pioneer Square’s Holiday Ornament Scavenger Hunt has returned for its third year. Twenty-five handblown glass ornaments—all made at Glasshouse Studio—are hidden across 25…

Chit-Chat Kids

Chit-Chat Kids

Phone a friend.

Twenty years ago, before everyone walked around with a device in their pocket, kids used to call each other on a landline—often tethered to the kitchen in their home. It was a simpler time, when parents didn’t have to worry (nearly as much) about a potential predator contacting their child. Nowadays, things are different, which…

A Plate for Pickleball

A Plate for Pickleball

The design celebrates the state’s official sport. Additional plates are on the way.

Washington served up a new license plate last week, honoring the state sport of pickleball. In the works for three years, it’s the second of seven specialty plates to hit the market since getting approved by lawmakers earlier this year. “We’re thrilled to see our efforts become reality,” says Kate Van Gent, vice president of…

Seattle-Based Agency Brings Real Voices to NBC’s New Campaign

Seattle-Based Agency Brings Real Voices to NBC’s New Campaign

DNA&STONE built the project around candid conversations to understand what audiences want from reporting.

“I turned off news altogether. I want to be able to form my own opinions. Just tell the truth.” These lines open NBC News’ new national campaign, a 60-second ad that drifts over forests, farms, neighborhoods, and cityscapes while Americans talk about how worn out they feel by the news. The landscape carries the conversation…
