Must Indulge for a Cause
Summer Ice Cream & Shopping Social to Benefit Mary’s Place
(5/25) Sweets and sparkles and style—oh my! Sell Your Sole consignment boutique is joining forces with Molly Moon’s ice cream and Stella and Dot jewelry to throw a delicious soirée where you can give and get at the same time. Play dress-up with labels like Rag & Bone, Lanvin and Manolo Blahnik with stylist Nicole Jackson on hand to offer her expertise. Try on some bling and enjoy an ice cream sandwich, or get the weekend started early and give in to a delectable sorbet champagne cocktail. A portion of sales will go towards Mary’s Place, which provides homeless women, children and families access to shelter, food and resources to help reclaim their lives. 5:30-7:30 p.m., 2121 First Avenue, Suite 101 (located behind Cherry Street Coffee House); 206-678-3245; sellyoursoulconsignment.com

Must Grub for Good
Taste of West Seattle
(5/25) If you hadn’t noticed, West Seattle’s food scene keeps getting better. But long before the recent spate of openings, this food-centric fundraiser has been highlighting neighborhood restaurants while helping the community. The 12th annual event features food and drink from 50 restaurants and breweries from West Seattle and White Center, with proceeds going toward the West Seattle Helpline—an organization offering low-income residents financial help, clothing and transportation. 6:30 p.m., $75-$90, The Hall at Fauntleroy, 9131 California Ave. SW; tasteofwestseattle.org

Must Rock the Gorge
Sasquatch! Music Festival
(5/26-28) The annual Memorial Day weekend bash at the Gorge couldn’t be slowed by losing headliner Frank Ocean, who bailed this month citing “production delays” (whatevs, Frank). In his stead, the rowdy Sasquatch crowd will get down to on-again dance-punk pioneers LCD Soundsystem, who apparently have a new record in the works. Twenty One Pilots and hip-hop’s reigning “it” boy Chance the Rapper also top the eclectic bill. $100-$295, Gorge Amphitheatre, 754 Silica Rd. NW, George, Wa. sasquatchfestival.com

Must Feel the Folk
Northwest Folklife Festival
(5/26-29) The sun is shining and Seattle is feeling the great-outdoors spirit just in time for the 46th Annual Northwest Folklife Festival. Fueled by donations and community, this yearly celebration of the PNW’s diverse cultural tapestry promises a variety of live music, performances and art from all walks of life in various spaces and across multiple stages. Fun for families, large groups and solo attendees, Folklife has something for everyone—and yes, they have beer. Enjoy this classic Seattle experience while you can, as financial woes are reportedly threatening the fest’s future. $10+ suggested donation. Seattle Center. nwfolklife.org

Must Ride
Emerald Bike Ride
(5/28) Now in its second year, the Emerald Bike Ride presented by Kaiser Permanente takes a unique path: I-5 and I-90 Express Lanes, as well as the SR 520 Bridge. Cyclists can choose between 11-mile and 25-mile routes, neither of which are typically accessible by bike, making this ride a unique opportunity. In addition to unbeatable views, participants will receive a commemorative hat and the knowledge that their registration fee supports Cascade Bicycle Club’s efforts to make all of Washington a safer, better place to ride a bike. 6:00 a.m., Cost varies. SoDo. 301 Edgar Martinez Dr. 206.522.3222. cascade.org

Back to Gander

Back to Gander

Seattle Rep revisits its original world premiere with a new staging that pulls you straight into the heart of the story.

When you walk into the theater, the cast is already onstage in what looks like a Gander high school gym—setting out dishes for a potluck, chatting, and then cleaning up. It feels like you’ve arrived in the middle of a reunion, which is the point. This run marks 10 years since Come From Away first…

Seattle’s Big Holiday Arts Guide

Seattle’s Big Holiday Arts Guide

A full lineup of seasonal performances across local theaters and venues.

In the words of William Shakespeare, “All’s well that ends well.”  Local theater and arts organizations are hoping for exactly that. Holiday productions often account for as much as half of their annual ticket sales. A 2018 Dance/USA survey found that The Nutcracker alone represented 48% of yearly revenue for many companies producing the Tchaikovsky…

Outside The Frame

Outside The Frame

In their first solo museum exhibition in Seattle, artist Camille Trautman uses photography to reclaim history, narrative, and self-expression.

You have probably seen Camille Trautman’s work without even realizing it. A huge photograph—20 feet wide—is currently hanging across the exterior of the Frye Art Museum, visible to passersby driving along Boren Avenue. The image is of a wooded landscape in black and white. Its edges are vacuous, with trees swallowed by darkness, but the…

Holiday Hunt in Pioneer Square

Holiday Hunt in Pioneer Square

A daily ornament drop turns December into a neighborhood-wide scavenger hunt.

The holidays tend to bring out the kid in all of us. And if opening presents and eating too many treats weren’t enough, there’s also a scavenger hunt in Seattle’s oldest neighborhood. Pioneer Square’s Holiday Ornament Scavenger Hunt has returned for its third year. Twenty-five handblown glass ornaments—all made at Glasshouse Studio—are hidden across 25…
