The Ruby Room’s Fashion Faux Pas to Fashion Fabulous

By Seattle Mag October 10, 2012

The Ruby Room is an excellent organization, run by West Seattleite Nyla Bitterman, that has been giving away free formal dresses to girls in need for 10 years, making prom a possibility for many of them. In 2012 the organization provided dresses to over 500 teens, and sponsored their first scholarship to a low-income fashion student at Seattle Central Community College. The scholarship was funded in part by their 2011 fundraising effort, which is primarily their annual fashion show and auction, Fashion Faux Pas to Fashion Fabulous.

The 2012 event, their biggest yet, is this coming Saturday, October 13, at the Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion. Restyled and upcycled gowns, created by local designers glam.spoon, Lime Light Fashion, MAC Fashion House, Not Your Mama’s Apron, Pinky Herrera Designs and Savannah Red, from out-of-style gowns that didn’t get an invite to the prom this year will be auctioned off during the event after making their debut on the runway. Cocktail temptress Kathy Casey will be clad in one of the gowns as the celebrity model and other auction items include travel packages, wine, spa services and restaurant gift certificates.

Tickets are $30 for general admission and $60 for V.I.P. In addition to priority seating, V.I.P. guests receive a swag bag filled with goodies and complimentary wine service. Click here for more ticket info and to purchase.
