It is time to come to grips with the inevitable: saying goodbye to that ratty “Frankie Says Relax” T-shirt you wear when running errands and hello to designer Amanda Boyd’s stylish Sandmaiden line of lounge wear.

A former career-wear designer from Vancouver, British Columbia, Boyd first started sewing wrap cardigans and warm woolen leggings almost five years ago after relocating to Ballard. Boyd, a stay-at-home mom, wanted pieces that made an easy transition from coffee run to naptime.

“I thought I was designing pieces just to wear at home,” she says, “but then realized what women really needed were pieces that worked for their whole—very busy—lives.” Made from cozy wools, bamboos and cottons, the line incorporates savvy details like cowl-neck sweaters fastened with wood buttons ($180), oversized funnel hoods on long, lean hoodies ($70) and mockneck sweaters with stylish, oversized kilt pin closures ($145).
