Fall is in full swing, with shopping opportunities galore all weekend long. This Saturday, October 6 from noon to 4 p.m., head to J. Gilbert Footwear in Belltown for a chance to meet two funny, shoe-loving ladies in a magical confluence of hilarity and style. The Simpson’s Yeardley Smith (aka the voice of Lisa Simpson) and Ballard author Jennifer Worick, whose book Things I Want to Punch in the Face is a hilarious read that highlights all the annoying things that deserve, you guessed it, a punch in the face (The Blue Man Group, Facebook’s Timeline, push presents, those types of things), will both be on hand to meet customers.

Yeardley Smith is in town to promote her shoe line, Marchez Vous, a sophisticated collection of heels, boots and flats for the discerning woman who takes her footwear very seriously. Worick will be signing copies of her book for the first 50 people who spend at least $200, which won’t be hard since Marchez Vous shoes start at $250.

Nube Green, one of Capitol Hill’s coolest shops, is in the process of having an amazing all-store Garage Sale. The sale, which started on October 2 runs until the “winds of madness have shifted,” according to their e-blast, features 30 to 70 percent off everything in the shop. That is madness, but the best kind possible. Nube Green’s owner Ruth True has great taste and has dedicated herself to only carrying goods that are made completely in the USA. If you’ve perused, coveted or windowshopped there in the past, now’s the time to pull out your wallet for some great deals.

There’s a bunch of great shopping opportunities to put on your radar, not the least of which is a multi-vender vintage clothing sale at Vintage Event Productions in the U Village area the weekend of October 13, both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Full disclosure: I will personally have a booth there, along with goods (wallets, belts, handbags and some clothing) from Sustalux and my neighbor Lisa Jones, who has an incredible vintage clothing collection (I mean, it’s amazing) that she’s selling off. Her taste ranges towards prints, both psychedelic and Marni-esque. Really, really special pieces. If you love vintage clothing, you won’t want to miss this event.  Plus, the location is a little-known antique wonderland that you’ll want on your radar for their frequent 50 percent off sales and auctions. 

Also on Saturday, October 13, Click! Design That Fits is celebrating their eighth anniversary with cold beer, doughnuts (see The Simpsons above) and discounts galore.

Ann Taylor is opening a new concept store at University Village on October 19. The concept behind the store is “the ultimate closet,” with a broad variety of items, stylists on-hand and plenty of the iconic, American sportswear that the brand has been known for since 1954. Room & Board is opening closely on the heels of Ann Taylor on the following Monday, October 22.
