Seattle Symphony Debuts Its Newest Conductor at the Season-opening Gala
Thomas Dausgaard will begin his tenure with some Scandinavian music favorites

Though no one was really ready to say goodbye to Ludovic Morlot, Seattle Symphony is turning the page with incoming music director Thomas Dausgaard, who will begin his tenure at this season-opening gala concert. The Danish Dausgaard is following Seattle Symphony tradition by sharing his country’s music. Just as Morlot chose French music and Gerard Schwarz before him energetically proselytized for American music, Dausgaard will introduce Seattle to Scandinavian music we may not yet know. At the gala, you’ll hear the sparkly overture to the comic opera Maskarade by Dane Carl Nielsen. Also on the program: Daniil Trifonov will be on hand for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 4, and the orchestra will get a thorough workout with Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra.
