Seattle’s Love Affair with Glass Is on Full Display at These Area Art Exhibits
Four art experiences that reflect our love affair with glass

The Tacoma Art Museum’s new Rebecca and Jack Benaroya Wing, opened in January, takes an in-depth look at the legacy of glass art in the Pacific Northwest through the couple’s impressive collection of 353 works by artists including Dale Chihuly and Martin Blank. Nearby, the Museum of Glass’s Translations exhibit bridges media by presenting glass pieces inspired by native carvings and weavings from the collection of the Washington State Historical Society (through 11/10).
Meanwhile, at the Bellevue Arts Museum, animal figures are among the multifarious works at the BAM! Glasstastic biennial (ends 4/14), celebrating the Northwest’s status as America’s heart of glass (art). And a new exhibit, School, organized by Joseph Rossano, calls attention to dwindling global salmon stocks through glass sculptures of fish collected from artists around the world (4/12–8/11).
