With more than 10 million Americans opting for a plant-based diet, vegan restaurants are becoming increasingly popular

If you prefer veggies to beef, Seattle is a good place to be. 

Seattle is the third best city for vegans, a report by sports nutrition brand MyProtein found, with one-third of takeout options in the city offering vegan options. New York City ranked No. 1 and Atlanta No. 2. 

With more than 10 million Americans opting for a plant-based diet, vegan restaurants are becoming increasingly popular. If you’re thinking of becoming vegan, or just want to try plant-based food, here are some popular local vegan spots to check out.

Plum Bistro
Opened in 2009, Plum Bistro is a Capitol Hill icon. With dishes ranging from burritos to chili to the vegan my American guy cheese burger, Plum Bistro has options for even the pickiest of eaters. Owner and chef Makini Howell also operates Plum Chopped, serving healthy salads, and Sugar Plum, a bakery for vegans with a sweet tooth.

Wayward Vegan Cafe
For meat-free versions of classic American-style diner food, visit Wayward Vegan Cafe in Ravenna. Try a break of dawn crunch wrap or the suns over Seattle for a dish you’d never realize was made using tofu. If you’re looking for a sweeter breakfast option, try the strawberries & cream French Toast.

Frankie & Jo’s 
Along with traditional ice cream scoops such as vanilla and fudge, Frankie & Jo’s features outlandish flavors such as salty caramela made with activated charcoal, and Beet Strawberry Rose sorbet.

Broadfork Cafe
For entrees, Broadfork Cafe offers bowls, wraps, sandwiches and more that are organic and can be ordered gluten free. The cafe also offers smoothies, juices, tea and coffees, all of which are gluten free. For a sweet you’ll feel good about, try the banana walnut bread or pumpkin pecan spice bar, made with organic ingredients.

Harvest Beat
Named Restaurant Guru’s 2019 Vegetarian Restaurant of the Year, Harvest Beat has both casual and upscale options. For lunch, try the ravioli with smoked tomato sauce, or pick up a swisschard wrap filled with veggies. For dinner, check out Harvest Beat’s five-course dinner to go, which can be ordered with a bottle of wine.

Kati Vegan Thai
Kati Vegan Thai offers “modern flavors” with “traditional methods.” Try featured dishes such as garlic jackfruit on sticky rice, massaman curry and “devil wings,” or fried oyster mushrooms coated in spicy seasoning. Kati Vegan Thai food is made without the use of artificial flavoring, processed ingredients, MSG or GMOs.

Pi Vegan Pizzeria
