Leather working began as a hobby for University District–based Nicholas Kramer, founder and craftsman of Hank Goods (hankgoods.com), a line of exquisite leather wallets, purses and bags. Inspired by the design philosophy that an item is “beautiful by nature of its functionality and simplicity,” Kramer believes in taking his time to perfect his products—averaging about one custom bag a week. His long-lasting leather pieces, ranging in price from $65 for a wallet to $750 for larger bags, are made by hand, using organic-vegetable-tanned leather in four shades of brown that darken with age. The benefit of so much care: He’s met every person who has purchased one of his bags. Select items also available at Ludlow Home, Phinney Ridge, 7315 Greenwood Ave. N; 206.429.5081; ludlowco.com
