SoDo Furniture Company Makes Going Green Incredibly Comfortable

Couches are part of our everyday lives, whether we’re crammed on them between relatives for get-togethers or sprawled out with pets, binge-watching TV. That’s why Aimée Robinson, owner of locally based furniture company EcoBalanza, set out to design an eco-friendly, sustainably-built and comfortable couch.

Building relationships with farmers, craftspeople and material processors for more than a decade, Robinson offers couches made from high-quality, nontoxic and ethically sourced materials: think organic Dunlop latex (made from sap harvested from rubber trees and processed without chemicals) and hypoallergenic kapok (a whispery soft tree fiber, first used in life jackets). Each piece is manufactured in house and by hand, says Robinson. “We maintain control over our supply chain, and every choice made in terms of design, sourcing and production keeps our long-term goals of net-positive, zero-waste manufacturing in mind.”
