UV Treatments Make a Comeback in Local Spas

During the dungeon days of winter, who couldn't use a sunny burst of Vitamin D?

After years of living in disgrace (we’ve sworn off tanning beds for good), UV is making a comeback as spas heap on extra doses of safe rays with therapeutic and innovative uses of light. Thank goodness. During the dungeon days of winter, we could use a sunny burst of Vitamin D without the guilt trip.

Sunset Ritual Body Wrap: Northwest Face Spa
The newly revamped Northwest Face Spa has captured the calming, new morning sunlight (sans the brutal alarm) in this signature wrap. Guests pick their preferred scent for a full body scrub and sugar mask, and are then wrapped in a Mylar blanket (human burrito alert!) while the spa’s custom-designed UV light system cycles from the deep violets and indigo blues of sunset back through the oranges and reds of sunrise for an energy-boosting exit from your warm cocoon. $125/50 minutes. The Woodmark Hotel, Kirkland, 1200 Carillon Point; 425.803.9000; thewoodmark.com/spa

FAB for 14 Manicure: Julep Nail Parlor
Though not surprising, it’s still depressing when perfectly manicured nails last less than a week. Julep has doubled that life expectancy with a natural, hybrid manicure (part polish, part gel), introduced last fall. Available in a range of shades, the fast-dry polish is cured under UV light, is slightly thicker, and it lasts up to 14 days. (Our own electric pink experiment lasted 26 chip-free days, despite our best efforts to wreck it.) $48/45 minutes. Available at downtown and Bellevue locations; Bellevue, 221 Bellevue Way NE; 425.440.0861; myjulep.com. Also at Gene Juarez Salons ($35/30 minutes. Multiple locations, genejuarez.com).
