This Weekend is All About Beer, Seafood and Goats

The Must List: Your guide to Seattle's hottest events.

By Seattle Magazine Staff July 6, 2017

Ballard-SeafoodFest

MUST MARVEL
Nights at The Neptune
(7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27) Watch local musicians, actors, dancers and filmmakers take center stage at The Neptune every Thursday night to showcase their talent and address important social issues, particularly race and gender, through their art. Free. Times vary. Neptune Theatre, University District, 1303 NE 45th St.; stgpresents.org

MUST SIP AROUND THE WORLD
Seattle International Beer Festival

(7/7-7/9) Now in its 17th year, this globally-focused beer bash operates a little differently than the typical all-you-can-sample festivals. The worldly bash, which features more overseas beers than most ‘Murica-heavy fests, employs a ticket system, for better or worse. Those rarefied sours that Untappd addicts brag about (and may not last all weekend) might set you back a few more tickets than the under-the-radar helles. Still the most, um, ambitious drinkers needn’t worry, as extra tickets are sold for a buck each. Prices and times vary. Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion, 305 Harrison St., seattlebeerfest.com

MUST PET GOATS
Goatalympics
(7/8) Watch adorable pet goats and their handlers compete in foot races, obstacle courses and costume competitions. Which furry companions will win titles like “Most Spots” and “Longest Beard”? All proceeds help fund New Moon Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary, which has rehabilitated and found homes for more than 1,550 animals since 1998. 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Free. Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Monroe, 14405 179th Ave. SE; goatalympics.org

MUST ROCK LIKE A GAMER
Video Games Live
(7/8) Video games meets rock concert meets symphony orchestra, giving birth to Video Games Live, an immersive concert of video game music from titles such as Final Fantasy, Halo, Mario, The Legend of Zelda and World of Warcraft. Game industry veteran Tommy Tallarico has gathered top orchestras and choirs from around the world in a touring production, combining their music with interactive and live segments to produce a unique experience for gamers and non-gamers alike. 8 p.m. Prices vary. Paramount Theatre, downtown, 911 Pine St.; 206.682.1414; stgpresents.org

MUST BRING APPETITE
Ballard SeafoodFest
(7/8–7/9) Pick up a plate of alder-smoked salmon from Trident Seafoods or compete in the festival’s lutefisk eating competition—just a couple of the ways you can help commemorate Ballard’s fishing industry at this summer tradition, entering its 43rd year. More than 120 food and craft vendors will span five blocks, with live music at the center of it all, in Marvin’s Garden park. All day. Free. Ballard, 2208 NW Market St.; seafoodfest.org

Artist’s Corner: Tininha Silva

Brazilian-born fiber artist Tininha Silva talks about building a life in the Pacific Northwest and the coastal landscape that influences her work.

Those details are finding their way into the work of artist Tininha Silva. Silva grew up in Brazil’s rugged Pernambuco region before moving to Seattle in 1999 after earning…
