Best Hotel: Populus Seattle

Pioneer Square has undergone a post-pandemic renaissance, and Populus Seattle, the neighborhood’s freshest new hotel, is leading the way with its rooftop bar and art-forward programming. Part of the Railspur micro-district, the 120-room adaptive reuse project converts the century-old Westland building into an inviting hospitality space that welcomes out-of-town guests and the surrounding community.
Populus Seattle was designed by local architecture firm, the Miller Hull Partnership, which strove to maintain some of the building’s original features—its large timber columns and brick walls—and tap into the creative and industrial spirits that have always defined Pioneer Square. A much-anticipated rooftop bar, Firn, is the first of its kind in the neighborhood, and it offers innovative cocktails and small bites alongside city skyline views. The team at Populus worked with Dominic Nieri, founder of global art production house ARTXIV, on an evolving art program for its walls, resulting in more than 300 purchasable original commissions from 35 local and international artists in celebration of the Pacific Northwest.

About Best of the Best
Everyone loves a winner. And when it comes to Seattle favorites, there’s no shortage of opinions on which places, spaces, and bites deserve top honors. This year, we did things a little differently—our staff weighed in, debating and voting to determine the best of the best across the city. We also ran our annual Readers’ Choice poll for comparison (and yes, there was overlap in just one category). Here’s to celebrating all the winners, no matter who cast the vote.
