WHERE: The Clinton Street Theater in Portland for the ninth annual FILMED BY BIKE FILM FESTIVAL (4/15–4/17; $8–$10; 2522 SE Clinton St.; filmedbybike.org). WHY: The festival celebrates both wheels and reels with 30 independent short films (eight minutes max) about bikes and bike culture, selected by a jury of local bike geeks and film buffs. SIDE TRIP: Switch from screens to swigs with a visit to Cascade Brewing Barrel House (939 SE Belmont St.; 503.265.8603; cascadebrewingbarrelhouse.com), where brew masters Art Larrance and Ron Gansberg are taking Portland’s booming beer scene by storm with handcrafted “sour beers” aged in oak barrels with hints of cherries, apricots and raspberries. GETTING THERE: Head south on I-5 to Portland and take exit 300B, cross the Morrison Bridge and ask any cyclist which way to go. (Estimated driving time: three hours.
