More than 100 handblown glass floats will be hiding in plain sight around West Seattle, and if you find one, it’s yours to keep.

The West Seattle Glass Float Hunt is back for its fourth year, running Aug. 8-15, with orbs tucked into parks, shops, and other public spaces across the neighborhood. Each 4-inch float is stamped with a heart and “WS” (for West Seattle), sealed in a mesh bag, and placed somewhere visible — no digging, no trespassing.

This year’s floats are crafted in pinks and purples by Avalon Glassworks and tagged with a QR code so hunters can register their find and see which local business sponsored it. A live map at westseattlefloathunt.com shows which floats have been claimed, and daily clues help point the way.

It’s a sweet excuse to wander the neighborhoods of West Seattle, pop into a few shops, and maybe bring home a pretty little float for your windowsill. Last year’s hunt brought a noticeable boost for local shops and restaurants. The event is hosted by the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and West Seattle Junction Association.

“We’re so excited to bring back the Glass Float Scavenger Hunt,” says Chris Mackay, executive director of the West Seattle Junction Association. “It’s a fun, free adventure for all ages, inviting people to explore our local parks and businesses while searching for stunning handblown glass floats.”

“We love seeing visitors and neighbors alike discovering more of what makes West Seattle special,” says Rachel Porter, executive director of the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce. “We hope you enjoy every moment of the search — and the joy of finding a float!”

The immersive, whimsical dining experience debuts at the Kimpton Palladian Hotel.

At a recent dinner, I sat across from a friend, smiling as a tiny orange-and-black butterfly landed on my empty plate. Just inches away, a small figure in chef whites and red boots strolled out of a greenhouse with a rake perched over his shoulder. He then proceeded to work a patch of dirt, plant…

Seattle’s fishing culture is something to be proud of. Drive over the Ballard Bridge on any given day and you’ll see the fleet docked below. The weathered, working boats stacked with gear, waiting for their next trip north, are striking, aren’t they? It’s hard, dangerous work, and there’s something so compelling and fierce about the…

Here’s what was served up recently in the Emerald City.

OK, we’ll say it—we love Seattle Restaurant Week, but it also gives us a little bit of anxiety and a lot of FOMO. There are just so many choices. Hundreds of restaurants, food carts, cafes, and bars can be a tad overwhelming, but 10? That’s a much more manageable number. Thankfully, Secret Seattle put together…
