Looking to add some art to your walls while supporting an important cause? Bumbershoot’s limited-edition poster will do both. For $40 or $60, each poster sold provides 80 meals through a virtual food drive organized by Conscious Alliance as part of its “ART THAT FEEDS” initiative. This effort is part of the Bumbershoot Gives Back, Powered by Amazon program, which aims to donate 90,000 pounds of food to local food banks this year.

Designed by Portland-based illustrator and author Dan Stiles (you might remember his 2007 Bumbershoot poster), this year’s design features a giant squid holding festival icons such as the Space Needle, drumsticks, and a microphone. “I’ve been attending Bumbershoot for years,” Stiles says. “I’ve seen it change, and I’m thrilled to see it getting back to its community roots.”

The effort by Bumbershoot and Amazon addresses food insecurity in Western Washington, an issue affecting more than 1.5 million people in the region — a cause Stiles fully supports. “Society wastes far too much time and effort on things that don’t matter,” he notes. “It’s a travesty that there are people in the wealthiest nation on earth who can’t eat.”

Bumbershoot Gives Back is also offering locals a chance to volunteer in exchange for festival tickets. This summer, 2,000 two-day tickets to the 2024 Bumbershoot festival are available to those who volunteer with community organizations focused on food insecurity.

This year’s Bumbershoot Arts & Music Festival runs on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 — Labor Day weekend — at Seattle Center.

Now comes news that Everett pop culture collectibles company Funko has signed a deal with the…

Seattle’s longtime area code is getting a new number

If you’ve got a 206 number, go ahead and brag a little. It’s about to get exclusive. Starting June 10, the 564 area code will begin overlaying 206 in Seattle. Blame the cell phones, tablets, watches. Everything wants a number now. Area codes often run out eventually, but this speeds things up. And since we…
