High end camping, or glamping, has been popping up next to national parks for a while now — pretty canvas tents, real beds, bathrooms that don’t require braving the woods in the middle of the night. Now a major national brand has made it to Washington.

Under Canvas, the Denver-based company known for luxury camps near places like Zion National Park and Yellowstone, has just opened a 120-acre site in the White Salmon River Valley, about a 3.5-hour drive south of Seattle. It’s the company’s first Pacific Northwest location and it comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect.

The Columbia River Gorge site features elevated canvas tents with king-size beds, ensuite bathrooms, gas fireplaces, USB ports, and pull-chain showers. Some tents include a stargazing window above the bed. Families and groups can book two tents connected by a private deck and lounge area. Nightly rates start at $229.

The camp has a community lobby tent with lounge seating and a small boutique. Guests can book guided hikes, rafting, fishing, or winery visits through the on-site concierge. Daily programming includes yoga, live music, and nightly s’mores. There’s also seasonal meals with indoor and al fresco dining, plus grab-and-go snacks.

This is the company’s 12th location nationwide. The camp is open through Oct. 27, and reservations for the season are available now.

I do like the hassle of tent camping — bickering over tent placement, cramming everything into the back of the car like a master puzzler, grilling hot dogs, and making gritty coffee in the morning light. But I also know plenty of people who’d happily camp if this is what it looked like, and I’ll admit, I’m interested in giving it a try. It does seem romantic. And in the end, it’s still about sleeping under the stars. What do you think?
