In This Issue: Second Homes; A Crazy Decade; Aging Well.

Seattle magazine’s latest issue is on shelves now

By Seattle Mag March 11, 2025

Magazine cover titled "Seattle" showcases a person and their dog relaxing on a deck, soaking in serene views of water and trees. Beside them, a modern glass-facade house stands tall at dusk—a testament to second homes that age well amidst the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

The new issue of Seattle magazine has arrived! You’ll find it at bookstores, grocery stores, and anywhere you pick up magazines.

This edition takes a look at second homes — why people are drawn to them and what they mean for the region. There’s a certain romanticism about second, or vacation homes. They provide escape and relaxation, investment potential and comfort. They often become places where family traditions are built across generations. And, let’s face it, they’re also seen as status symbols. We take a look at several people who have second homes, how they use them, how they decorate them, and why they bought them.

We also look back at 1975, a pivotal year that saw the birth of two Seattle institutions: Microsoft and the Fred Hutch Cancer  Center. It was a time of transformation, laying the groundwork for future innovation. And, we introduce a new column (a movement, really) called “Ageless in Seattle,” written by a woman who’s launched a group to take the stigma out of getting older. Of course, we offer our usual assortment of dining, living, and the arts to help you fall in love all over again with the region you choose to call home.

Grab a copy now, and stay tuned — we’ll be rolling out stories online over the next two months. Want it delivered straight to your door? Subscribe here
