Hey, there’s a lot going on around town. We’re weeks away from the first signs of spring, and the city is lighting up.

The Downtown Seattle Association is focused on the future, with ideas for keeping the city center lively and full of reasons to visit. Pierce County is getting creative with graffiti, bringing in local artists to help transform it into something fun to look at.

H Mart is coming to Ballard, and I’m hoping there’s a food court involved. And finally — Drumlin is back. This is one of our go-to neighborhood places, especially in the summer. We wander over after seeing a movie at the Crest. I’m excited to try the new menu.

Cirque du Soleil: KOOZA

These shows are stunning. The first time I saw a Cirque du Soleil performance, I spent the entire time bouncing between total awe and mild panic for the performers. How do they do that? KOOZA is bringing that same energy. Have you seen the Wheel of Death? It is exactly as intense as it sounds. Imagine two people doing tricks on the inside (and outside!) of two giant spinning wheels, defying gravity and good sense. It’s a thrill.

Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE

I haven’t seen EVIDENCE, but it looks like one of those performances where you leave feeling it deep in your bones. Ronald K. Brown mixes African, contemporary, and spiritual dance that looks powerful and moving. The New York Times calls it, “high energy works that joyously splice complex rhythms with a deep but down-to-earth spirituality.”

Asian Comics: Evolution of an Art Form Opening Party

March 7, 7:30 p.m.

Ages 21+

The new Asian comics exhibit is opening on March 8, and to celebrate, MoPOP is turning the museum into the Forest of Lunarda — expect a magical world with a glowy atmosphere and great music. There’s a night market with food from local chefs, a cosplay contest, and an anime rave. Plus, the actual exhibit has more than 400 works from Japan, China, India, and beyond.

 

Seattle Cocktail Week

Seattle Cocktail Week is back for its sixth year, which means a week of bar-hopping, inventive drinks, and an entire event dedicated to sampling more than 200 spirits. The Carnival of Cocktails (March 8) is the main attraction — think cocktail carnival games, a bottle shop, and a puppy speakeasy where you can sip your drink while snuggling adoptable dogs. Drink responsibly, hydrate, and maybe don’t make any big decisions while using those drink tokens.

I love when an event brings together great minds and good causes. This year, The Bridgerton Series romance writer Julia Quinn is speaking alongside women’s rights advocates from Kenya, all in support of Landesa’s work on land ownership and gender equality. Plus, Quinn will be signing books, which is a solid bonus.

If you’re in the mood for an evening of slow jams and big feelings, this is it. Pink Sweat$ (aka David Bowden) is from Philly, writing songs since he was a teen. He came through a couple of years ago, and everyone I know who went said it was incredible — smooth vocals and all-around feel-good music. I hope he plays this song!
