Seattle Is One of 14 Cities Hosting FX’s ‘Alien: Earth’ Stunt
FX is promoting its new series with creepy corporate crates landing downtown

Seattle’s getting a visit from something extraterrestrial this week, or at least something branded that way. On Saturday, Aug. 9, FX is staging a one-day activation outside W Seattle for Alien: Earth, its new series based on the Alien franchise.
The stunt, called “The Hunt,” runs from noon to 6 p.m. at 1112 Fourth Avenue. According to FX, the USCSS Maginot has crash-landed on Earth, and “containment units holding mysterious alien life forms have fallen from the wreckage and landed in cities around the world.” In Seattle, some of those crates will appear downtown, guarded by actors posing as officers from the fictional world. Brave fans who approach them may be “rewarded with a chance to instantly win an exclusive prize,” according to the network.
One of just 14 cities worldwide (and seven in the U.S.), Seattle made the list alongside London, São Paulo, Tokyo, and Los Angeles.
The series itself looks promising. Created by Fargo and Legion showrunner Noah Hawley, Alien: Earth is set in 2120, during a time when five mega-corporations control the planet. (Sounds familiar — we’re home to more than a few!) In this version of Earth, synthetics, cyborgs, and humans coexist, but the real breakthrough comes when one company figures out how to transfer human consciousness into robotic bodies, creating a new hybrid species.
The story centers on Wendy (played by Sydney Chandler), the first successful hybrid. After a Prodigy Corporation ship crashes into Prodigy City, she and a tactical team are sent to investigate. What they find, of course, is something much worse. Timothy Olyphant co-stars as Kirsh, and Ridley Scott is the executive producer.
Early reviews have been positive. The Daily Beast called it “the franchise’s best addition in years,” and Rotten Tomatoes has it at 90%.
Seattle has a few ties to the Alien universe. The original 1979 film premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival. Tom Skerritt, who played Captain Dallas, lives in the area and owns multiple homes here, and he’s appeared at local screenings of the movie over the years. Washington also has a long history with UFO sightings, starting with a 1947 report from a pilot who saw nine disc-shaped objects flying near Mount Rainier, an event that helped launch the modern UFO craze. Plus, the state ranks No. 2 in the U.S. for sightings.
Alien: Earth premieres Aug. 12 on FX and Hulu. Let us know on Instagram: Are you planning to watch?
