The Gates Foundation’s holiday market offers gifts that give back

Looking for gifts with a little more meaning this holiday season?
The Gates Foundation Discovery Center is hosting the Giving Marketplace on Dec. 6 and 7. This free two-day event packs more than 35 vendors into the Discovery Center, just steps from the Space Needle, with every purchase supporting causes like global health, education, refugee support, women and girls, and environmental conservation.
You’ll find everything from handmade candles by Spír Candle Co. (supporting formerly incarcerated youth) to books from Mountaineers Books (funding sustainable publishing) and pretty textiles from Zuri, an ethical fashion brand creating jobs in East Africa.
But it’s not all shopping. There’s live music, people and pet portraits by Cathy Wu, and a hands-on jewelry-making station led by Seattle ReCreative. And if your gift list still needs some pizzazz, the First Aid Arts card-making station can help you DIY a personal note. Find a full list of vendors and activities here.
