By Sarah Stackhouse May 30, 2025
Is it finally warm enough to leave the house without a backup jacket? Maybe. But this is Seattle, so keep a raincoat crumpled in your bag, just in case. People are digging out camping gear and Googling the least buggy lakes. Summer in the Evergreen State is starting to show up, and not a minute too soon.
Here’s what’s happening around town…
The SLU Market is getting bigger. For its 10th anniversary, South Lake Union’s Saturday market will now span two full blocks downtown, with more than 100 booths. What a city.
Pitch the Baby, a new women’s sports bar, is opening soon in Capitol Hill. The name is everything.
WSDOT’s “grazing excavators” took down two old freeway bridges in Kirkland over one 53-hour weekend. The drone video is incredible. They’re just chomping away at concrete and rebar like it’s nothing.
A Filipina UW staffer and green card holder has been released from the ICE facility in Tacoma. Good news, finally.
Storm fans: Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins are ready. The league better brace.
Early learning programs are on the chopping block, with federal and state cuts hitting hard. Yuck. Kids deserve better.
Ai Weiwei’s SAM exhibit made the New York Times.
The Kraken tapped Lane Lambert as their new head coach. Feels like a safe, smart pick, and he has playoff receipts.
The White House got sued for not providing ASL interpreters at press briefings.
Seattle just rezoned the entire city. How are we feeling about it?
This local startup is helping indie musicians with licensing. Love to see it.
And Alaska Airlines just teamed up with a James Beard Award-winning Seattle chef.
