March is Women’s History Month, and Seattle is ready to show up — because progress takes work, and setbacks don’t erase the wins.

What started with International Women’s Day in 1911 became a nationally recognized month in 1987. Now, it’s a time to reflect, push forward, and have a good time doing it. The city has plenty of ways to do just that. Here are a few highlights:

MoPOP’s International Women’s Day with iHeartMedia Seattle (1 p.m.–4:30 p.m. March 5) – A lineup of Seattle-based women leaders will share their insights on career growth, financial wellness, and mental health. The event includes live music, refreshments, and a scavenger hunt through MoPOP’s exhibits, with former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best delivering the keynote.

International Women’s Day: Stories of Strength (5 p.m.–7:30 p.m. March 5, Discovery Center and online) – This event will explore the intersection of gender, culture, and social change, focusing on empowering women in rural communities. The program will be in French with English interpretation and includes music by KEXP DJ Lace Cadence. The conversation with Djaïli Amadou Amal, a Cameroonian writer, activist, and UNICEF Ambassador will be moderated by Sybil Chidiac, senior program officer for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Gender Equality at the Gates Foundation.

Fighting Oligarchy March on Medina: International Women’s Day (10 a.m. March 8, Bellevue Downtown Park) – Join a peaceful march and rally to advocate for democracy and economic fairness. The event begins at Bellevue Downtown Park’s Piloti Statue, proceeds to Medina Park, and returns to Bellevue Downtown Park. All are welcome to participate.

MMBASSY Presents: See Her Be Her (March 8, The W Seattle & Madame Lou’s, Belltown) – The all-female DJ collective hosts a day of panels and hands-on workshops at The W Seattle, followed by a night of music and dancing at Madame Lou’s in Belltown.

Women’s Day with Carrie Akre & More (9 p.m. March 8, Clock-Out Lounge) – Celebrate International Women’s Day with performances by Carrie Akre and other artists.

Anoushka Shankar at The Moore Theatre (March 13) – The sitar virtuoso brings a new band and music from her latest three mini-albums.

Drunk HERstory 2025 at Stoup Brewing (7 p.m. March 13) – A night of laughter, learning, and libations, celebrating some of history’s most fascinating and impactful women.

International Women’s Day MBA Alumni Gathering (March 16, Seattle) – An informal, in-person gathering offering an opportunity to expand your network with other talented MBA alumni in your city. Registration on Eventbrite is required to attend.

Northwest Women’s Show (March 23-24, Tacoma Dome) – Two days of fashion, health, food, and entertainment packed into one big celebration of women.

Hinds LIVE on KEXP (March 27, KEXP Studios, Seattle Center) – The Spanish indie rock band Hinds, led by Carlotta Cosials and Ana García Perrote, record a live session at KEXP.

Local Businesses Step Up Against Rising Hunger

Local Businesses Step Up Against Rising Hunger

As food insecurity grows, Seattle organizations respond with coordinated meal distributions and support.

Food bank visits are up 70% since 2019, and even with SNAP benefits reinstated, many families still struggle to keep food on the table. Costs continue to rise, donations have dipped as everyday expenses increase, and the loss of federal support has left a system that was already stretched pushed even further. “Right now, we’re…

Fave Five: Jazzy and Merry

Fave Five: Jazzy and Merry

From twinkling lights to Viking bonfires, here’s how to celebrate the season.

For me, it all starts when Lou Rawls sings. One song into Merry Christmas, Baby, and I’m ready to give in to the whirl of it all. Hearing it also means the pace is about to pick up, and sometimes it does feel like too much. But that’s just the holidays—the joy comes tucked inside…

Fave Five: Settling into Fall

Fave Five: Settling into Fall

Warm light, early sunsets, and the comfort of small adventures.

September and October are my favorite months in Seattle. It’s still lovely outside—plenty of sun—but the air is cooler. I find myself scanning the day for something good to do before dark: a last farmers market tomato, a long walk, or a reason to make soup. It reminds me of childhood, squeezing in one more…

A fall season opener, Taste of the Sound, Downton’s farewell

Fall is just about here, showing itself in the chill of early mornings and the fog that settles over the city. It’s the season when Seattle feels like the center of the art world. We dropped into Pioneer Square to catch fashion at its most fun during First Thursday Art Walk, rounded up this season’s…
