Embrace fall’s thesis statement: The latest Oxfords mix prim and proper schoolgirl charm with bold laces and masculine-meets-feminine details for grown-up sass.

Fom left to right: Bass “Reid” brown cocoa suede heel with contrasting cognac waxy milled leather panels, $79.95, available at Nordstrom downtown; By Hudson “Lita” gray and tan suede saddleback flats with plaid laces, $270, at Edie’s on Capitol Hill; Miz Mooz “Nash” brown and beige leather lace-up saddleback heel, $110, and Miz Mooz “Brite” black and whiskey gray leather lace-up Oxford flat, $105, both at Clementine in West Seattle; Prada “Linnea Rossa” quilted patent leather flat with black nylon laces, $480, at Nordstrom, multiple locations including The Bellevue Collection; leather chair courtesy of Masins Fine Furnishings.

In a country that loves its Levi’s 501s, Wranglers and Diesel jeans, it’s little surprise that denim has broken from its exclusive pants-only contract, popping up as a high-fashion style accessory in flirty skirts and broken-in sanded shirts.

Diane von Furstenberg “Capellini Mini” sleeveless dress with exposed back zipper in Cube colorway, $365, at Neiman Marcus at The Bravern in Bellevue, layered under Nobody “Billy” denim shirt with flare dart detail and snap closures, $249, at DNA 2050 at The Bravern in Bellevue; Sandy Duftler Designs tan stretch link belt with hook enclosure, $245, at Butch Blum downtown; Christian Louboutin “Lavalliere” blue suede heels with black ribbon bow detail, $795, and Lauren Merkin faux snake skin clutch with magnetic snap closure, $90, both at Neiman Marcus.

Maison Scotch sanded indigo-dyed three-quarter-length-sleeve denim dress with copper snap buttons, $155, at DNA 2050 at The Bravern in Bellevue, layered under Maison Martin Margiela gray knit wool-mohair tunic, $445, and Armani Black label silk black and gray stripe tie, $180, both at Butch Blum downtown; Lekkerlife cotton/bamboo denim weave high-waisted skirt with front panel pockets, $104, available in variety of fabrics at Velouria in Ballard; “Soiree” pleated olive green recycled leather tote bag with contrasting vintage floral fabric pleat detail and recycled tweed enclosure and strap, $290, by Crystalyn Kae on Phinney Ridge; Chloe gray leather open-toed “Saturnia” platform wedge heels, $695, at Neiman Marcus.

Bagged Up
Made from a gamut of discarded paraphernalia (old bicycle tires, for starters), these handbag creations prove the terms ‘refined’ and ‘recycled’ can indeed live together in harmony.

Clockwise from top left: Appetite fold-over messenger bag made from scrap upholstery hide and upcycled Pendleton print, $98, available at Show Pony in Fremont; Chemical Wedding “Ned” square messenger bag with adjustable shoulder strap made from postindustrial scrap leather, $285, available at Momo in Japantown; “Broadway” clutch made from recycled bike tires, with argyle-pattern contrast stitching detail, $58, by Alchemy Goods in SoDo. (De)construct recycled leather zippered clutch with asymmetrical fold-over panel, $68, available at Velouria in Ballard; red recycled leather clutch with zipper enclosure, contrasting fabric detail and removable wrist strap, $95, by Crystalyn Kae on Phinney Ridge.
