Out of this world, easy to reach. Washington’s premier ski destination is a hub for outdoor adventures and photo-ops in the summertime. New this summer, guided trips are available for by reservation to enhance your experience on the mountain. Local specialists share the secrets of the alpine with activities such as seasonal foraging and fly-fishing.

Less than a two-hour drive from Seattle, yet curiously remote, Crystal Mountain is an adventurous escape for everyone. Visitors come from far and wide to take a ride up the Mt. Rainier Gondola. Climbing over 2,400 feet from base to summit, the gondola carries up to eight passengers per cabin with 360-degree views. Mt. Rainier will meet you face to face for a breathtaking experience at the top, along with other famous volcanic peaks in sight. Interpretive signs and knowledgeable staff can help you identify Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Baker, and Glacier Peak lining the horizon.

Ready to set a new personal record? The highest elevation restaurant in Washington is perched just steps from the gondola, where the food rivals the views. Summit House is a bucket-list worthy venue for all, with a full-service experience indoors or casual dining on the patio.

Elevating the natural beauty of the Northwest, specialty dinners at Summit House are available by reservation in July and August, serving four-course meals with seasonally inspired ingredients. Farm to Mountain Dinners are offered every Saturday, Full Moon Dinners are offered once a month, and Meteor Shower Dinners are offered mid-August during peak viewing. Reservations are required, these unique dinners sell out fast.

It’s prime time in the alpine with wildflowers beginning to bloom and quiet open space to wander. You may even be greeted by the Roosevelt Elk roaming the lands. This is where we all come to retreat and find peace.

Adventures await. Whether it’s a solo trip, family outing or group activity, there’s something for everyone to connect with the outdoors. Crystal Mountain is taking summer to new heights in the Pacific Northwest.

Cozy Coastal Escapes

Who says the beach is only for summertime fun? These six spots, from British Columbia to California, highlight the beauty of the West Coast, all year round.

It all began with a simple scene: a roaring fire at San Ysidro Ranch, a glass of wine within reach, and a card game unfolding on the table. A quiet evening moment that sparked the notion of a coastal winter journey, where the season’s most alluring escapes share one element: the dancing flame. Whether it’s…

Lessons from the Land

Lessons from the Land

At the Organic Farm School on Whidbey Island, the ground-to-table mindset is rooted in good intentions.

For some, it’s tough to choose between a perfectly sun-ripened summer tomato and a juicy strawberry—but not for my three-year-old. Tomatoes, always tomatoes. Especially one that he has picked directly off the vine, on a working farm filled with fresh produce, chickens, and pigs. As the juice dribbles down his chin, and the sound of…

A little over a decade ago, I was in a wedding at the Pan Pacific Hotel. I don’t remember much about it (the hotel, that is), except that it felt very formal, if not a touch dated, with that general “upscale hotel in any city” kind of vibe. The wedding was fun, but I didn’t…
