What’s Wrong With This House: West Seattle Craftsman

This Admiral district home, built in 1911, has been on the market for 189 days. Why?

Each month, we crawl through real estate listings on various websites searching for homes–in all sorts of price points and locations–that for some reason, just haven’t found the right person or family to call their own. Sad. But why haven’t these seemingly lovely dwellings sold? A few months ago we featured this one (which shockingly still hasn’t been scooped up) and got tons of great reader theories as to its continued market presence. My favorite: That it was haunted by a wealthy ghost.

So here we are in West Seattle–specifically the serene Admiral area–where this three-bedroom, two-bathroom Craftsman has sat unwanted for more than five months. The two-story home is listed at $649,000 and comes in at a solid 2,140 square feet. Its views of downtown are pretty great, albeit slightly obstructed, and there are decks on each level meant for you to enjoy your surrounds.

The kitchen is a decent size and perhaps with the exception of the countertops, is updated. Change those out with a slab of clean, white quartz and it would instantly brighten everything up.

The living room is sunken and might be on the small side, but it has a gas fireplace and gorgeous windows with a sliding glass door that leads to one of the outdoor decks. On the top floor, you’ll find the master bedroom with an en-suite bath–dig the subway tiles, but other elements (tiled countertops, lighting) come across as dated–and a flex room primed for you to jumpstart your creative imagination and transform it into your dream hideaway.

It seems like a gem of a house, with lush greenery and ample windows flooding natural light. So why hasn’t it sold? There doesn’t appear to be much of a yard and it is an older home. What do you think? Scroll through the photos below to make your own assessments.
