Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival
(10/6–10/8) We Northwesterners looooooove our dungeness. So much so that a few hours in the car/on the ferry seems like nothing to sample the Pacific Northwest’s famous crustacean in every imaginable form—crab enchiladas, crab cakes, crab mac ’n’ cheese, crab poutine, crab quiche and more—at this Port Townsend food fest. Nordic Knitting Conference
(10/6–10/8) Learn how to make your own scarves, sweaters and other knitted items at the Nordic Heritage Museum’s annual knitting conference. Norway’s Arne Nerjordet and Carlos Zachrison, authors of the Arne and Carlos series of knit and crochet books, are the keynote knitters. Other featured instructors will teach an assortment of classes on Norway’s rich, longstanding traditions of textile arts. Times and prices vary. (10/6–10/8) Seattle Home Show presents its fall showcase of the region’s leading home improvement products, services and professionals (plus a holiday cooking competition) at CenturyLink Field Event Center this weekend. Connect with contractors for that kitchen remodel you’ve been dreaming of or peep the latest appliances to hit the market. Always in search of good eats, we’re eyeing the “Eggtoberfest” cooking competition where locals whip up their holiday dishes on Big Green Egg outdoor grills. Tasveer South Asian Film Festival
(10/6–10/15) Billed as the world’s largest South Asian film fest, the 10-day event highlights flicks and ideas not represented in mainstream Bollywood. This year’s fest focuses largely on Nepal, shedding light on Nepali art, culture and issues affecting the broader region. With the theme #WeBelong, the 12th annual festival features 18 full-length films and 38 shorts from 11 countries, plus a filmmaking workshop and guest speakers sharing stories about South Asian immigrants and their struggle for human rights. The Seattle Art Museum hosts an opening night gala with traditional Nepali snacks and music, and a screening of Nepali film Bijuli Machine followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Navin Awal.
