38th Seattle International Comedy Competition
(11/2–11/26) Thirty-two comedians from around the world compete to be the last comic standing in this regionally touring comedy competition that is the largest in the country. BREW Seattle
(11/3) Cups will runneth over at Seattle magazine’s Fourth Annual BREW Seattle tasting event. One of the city’s largest local-breweries-only tasting events (with cideries too!), BREW Seattle features breweries located within Seattle, tapping the local creativity popping up all over our Emerald City. Tickets include six 5-ounce tasting tokens (extra tokens are for sale) and food trucks will be on hand to help you soak up the suds. Short Run Comix and Arts Festival
(11/4) This seventh annual event celebrates the various styles of print art and literature, and showcases a spectrum of works, from handmade, self-published books to indie comics and cartoons. Small-press publishers from the Pacific Northwest, France, Japan, Peru, Taiwan and the U.K. hold workshops, panel discussions and activities to offer attendees what cofounder Kelly Froh says will be “books you can’t find anywhere else; intriguing, interactive art experiences and…fulfilling, direct engagement with the artists in attendance.” Free. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Seattle Center, Fisher Pavilion, 305 Harrison St.; 206-684-7200; shortrun.org

Day of the Dead Festival
(11/4) Join the Phinney Neighborhood Association for their Day of the Dead Festival, where families can gather to celebrate the lives of their lost loved ones. A traditional Latin American holiday, Dia de los Muertos will include a community procession and a formal altar dedicated to the deceased, where loved ones can place their offerings—pictures, mementos and other small items—to honor the dead. Plus, the event will feature live music, face painting, traditional Mexican hot chocolate and a raffle benefiting the PNA’s Spanish language preschool co-op. 4–7 p.m. Free.
