This Green Lake Institution is Closing, But Don’t Completely Freak Out

A developer recently purchased the site of the Green Lake Spud Fish & Chips.

OK Seattle, you know the drill. An old thing we love is shuttering to make way for a new development. It’s a broken record that doesn’t get any better the 2,374th time you hear it.

The latest Seattle staple in this familiar tune is the Green Lake Spud Fish & Chips. According to the Daily Journal of Commerce the building that has housed the no-frills fish shack since the 1950s has been sold to a developer planning to erect a towering six-story Batman-themed water park in its place.

Just kidding, it’s more apartments.

Specifically, a 59-unit building with retail on the ground floor and a 3,000-square-foot deck overlooking Green Lake. It’s not clear when the Green Lake Spud will serve its last battered cod filet, but unfortunately the cool angled-roof building will be demolished. The site was reportedly sold last month for $3.1 million.

However, there is some silver lining. The Seattle Times reports that Spud will reopen in the new development once it’s complete. During its absence, fish fans can check out the separately owned Spud locations in Alki, Edmonds and Juanita Beach.

Cake & Punch brings fully planned micro weddings to one of Seattle’s best-known stages.

Almost exactly 16 years ago, over Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I left work in Fremont and boarded a seaplane to Victoria, B.C., to get married. We were both working in tech at the time, and the whole plan was wonderfully small. I wore a colorful Anthropologie dress I’d bought for $150, and my…
