(8/1 to 8/2) Love the spectacle or hate the noise, there’s no denying the presence of the Blue Angels when they zoom into Seattle airspace. Hold onto your hats—and skittish dogs, too.
Must Have an Art Attack
A Host of Art Fairs Open
(7/30 to 8/2, times vary) The Seattle Art Fair at CenturyLink will showcase contemporary work from around 60 galleries hailing from New York, LA, Tokyo and (a few) from Seattle. But for full-on local pride, don’t miss the Out of Sight art expo at King Street Station (7/30 to 8/2), conceived by art provocateur Greg Lundgren and including work by more than 100 local artists. Also in local art extravaganzas: the Art of the City Street Fest at the Tashiro Kaplan artist lofts in Pioneer Square (8/1).

Lantern Lighting Ceremony at Green Lake
(8/6, 6 p.m.) To balance out the Blue Angels bravado, consider the lantern-lighting ceremony “From Hiroshima to Hope,” commemorating those killed by atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 70 years ago, as well as other victims of violence across the globe. Participants decorate paper-wrapped, wood-frame lanterns and send the glowing creations out into the waters along with thoughts of peace.
