Sushi Kashiba Is Now Serving Lunch

Your opportunity for excellent nigiri at noon awaits

Great news, friends: Today, until the rest of Seattle picks up on this, you can get into Sushi Kashiba at lunch.

Famed Jiro-trained sushi master Shiro Kashiba announced on Facebook yesterday that as of June 19, his Pike Place Market sushi bar—notoriously difficult to get into at dinner, particularly if you want to sit at the bar for the omakase experience—would be open for lunch in the small courtyard through the summer months. (Side note: The restaurant does take dinner reservations, but not for the bar.)

Because the chef likes to keep things simple, customers can choose a seven- or nine-piece nigiri set ($40 or $50 respectively), and each includes a roll and seasonal appetizer as well. Service runs 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Since it’s a slow rollout of this lunch program, expect some changes along the way.

Now, this isn’t the only place you can get great sushi at lunch—head to Sushi Kappo Tamura in Eastlake for lunch any day—but it marks a special opportunity to a) get into one of Seattle’s best sushi restaurants in the middle of the day when many people are working downtown anyway, and b) experience its greatness without dropping a (larger) fortune. So go, have a leisurely sushi lunch in the sun.

We were both working in tech at the time, and the whole plan was wonderfully small. I wore a colorful Anthropologie dress I’d bought for $150, and my…
