Where to Celebrate Pi Day 2018

Math and food come together (to your benefit) on March 14

From a mathematical sense, pi is pretty cool on its own. But Pi Day (Wednesday, 3.14, obviously) is even better—because pi is generally celebrated with pie, and pie is even better than pi. In our book, anyway. Here are a few excuses to grab a slice, whether sweet or savory:

Pi Day Pie-Eating Contest
Occidental Square once again hosts a pie-eating contest (courtesy of Dahlia Bakery’s legendary coconut cream pies) from noon to 1 p.m., in which one lucky winner will receive a $25 gift card to Serious Pie. Come hungry and come early: only 10 people may compete.

The Cookie Counter
The quaint vegan bakery and ice creamery will host a special Pi Day Ice Cream Social from 6 to 9 p.m. Look forward to mini pies, pie slices, ice cream pie and pie milkshakes while kicking off a month of rotating pie flavors. 15 percent of the sales during the social will benefit Technology Access Foundation.

Preserve and Gather
Though this Greenwood café pie baking competition was Sunday, they’re still celebrating on Wednesday: 3.14 percent of sales Monday through Wednesday will go to Union of Concerned Scientists.

Pagliacci
For a cheesier kind of pie, buy two slices of Pagliacci pizza for $3.14. Or if you’re still hungry, buy one 11-inch pizza and get the second 11-inch pizza for $3.14.

Pie
What could be cuter and nerdier than mini pies with pi symbols on them? The sweet and savory Fremont shop will be selling them along with $3.14 pie swag and a “mini mini pie” promotion in conjunction with Alaska Airlines.

Mollusk Brewing
There is beer, there is pizza and then there is Pizzabier. Check out brewmaster Cody Morris’s quirky concoction that honors Pi Day and (hopefully) satiates your beer and pizza needs.

Conor Byrne Pub
Amateur and professional bakers alike come together to showcase their baking skills and auction off their favorite pies. This Pi(e) Day celebration will also feature a raffle, and all proceeds will benefit The Arc of King County chapter.

Wondering why everyone’s pie favorite A La Mode didn’t make the list? They told us their only plan for the day is to “serve incredible pies to the masses”—we’re guessing they’ll be busy enough without any special promotions.

Cake & Punch brings fully planned micro weddings to one of Seattle’s best-known stages.

Almost exactly 16 years ago, over Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I left work in Fremont and boarded a seaplane to Victoria, B.C., to get married. We were both working in tech at the time, and the whole plan was wonderfully small. I wore a colorful Anthropologie dress I’d bought for $150, and my…
