Where to Go for Pizza in West Seattle: Quadrato

Tucked in just off California Avenue near The Junction, in a space the size of a walk-in closet with barstools and counter seating, Quadrato doles out the thick, topping-heavy, square pizza slices of Midwesterners’ youths. I dig the purity of the Sfincione ($4.50 for a generous square slice): simply smooth, really good red sauce, pecorino and mozzarella cheeses, and breadcrumbs. But the veggie pizza ($4.75) is divine: zucchini, mushrooms, peppers and onions roasted until sweet and caramelized, dotted with ricotta on marinara-sauce-dressed dough and Mama Lil’s peppers; it’s a veggie pizza made by people who love their veggies. There are hefty sandwiches, too. I like the meatball with provolone, the veal perfectly tender, the Grand Central hoagie roll standing up to the copious fillings within ($9.95 with macaroni salad).
